ISO17357 hydropneumatic fender for submarine Marine Rubber Buffer
Hydropneumatic Fender
Hydropneumatic fender was developed in Japan in 1958. It should be manufactured according to ISO 17357. The standard defines the corresponding international standards for the materials and testing of these fenders. In most cases, the Hydropneumatic fender should be surrounded by tires and chains to provide additional protection. The fender can also be reinforced with rubber ribs(rib fender) without tires and chain mesh (sling fender).
Hydropneumatic Fender Advantage
1. Light weight, high compression deformation, low reaction strength, and high energy absorption.
2. Good floating performance, can meet the needs of water level changes.
3. Using compressed air as the medium, the energy consumption of the collision may not be compressed air.
4. Easy to install and long service life
Hydropneumatic Fender Classification
Marine rubber buffers are produced with two initial pressure ratings, which are pneumatic 50 (P50, initial internal pressure 50kPa) and pneumatic 80 (P80, initial internal pressure 80kPa).
Marine rubber buffers are mainly classified into three types as follows:
1. High-Pressure Marine Rubber Buffer with Chain and Tyre Net
With chain and tire net covering the buffer body, the marine rubber buffer can reduce the damage of friction and abrasion caused by direct contact. Therefore it’s widely used in places with complicated and unstable tide variation, such as ship-to-ship(STS) and ship-to-dock(STD) operations. In addition, as for the protECtive tire, Jerryborg offers four types of tires with different sizes and thicknesses for customers to choose from.
2. Sling Type Marine Rubber Buffer
Sling type marine rubber buffer will be connected with a guy chain or guy rope with a lifting device on both ends.
3. Hydro Pneumatic Type Marine Rubber Buffer
Hydropneumatic marine rubber buffer is usually used as a bumper with submarines and other semi-submersible platforms. It can be installed vertically in the water cause it’s filled with air and water inside and equipped with a counterweight.
All these buffers mentioned above are available usually in black, the color is also customized upon your request. Jerryborg offers fenders with various sizes in diameter ranging from 500mm to 4500mm, length ranging from 1000mm to 9000mm.

Hydropneumatic Fender Structure
① Outer rubber layer
Marine rubber buffers are covered by the outer layer made of natural rubber. This rubber compound is strong enough to protect the inner layer and synthetic-cord layer from the damage of external forces and severe weather conditions due to its high elasticity and abrasion resistance.
② Synthetic-tire-cord layer
The Synthetic-tire-cord layer is made of synthetic-tire-cord fabrics, compared with synthetic canvas fabric and synthetic belt fabric, this reinforcement layer performs better in fatigue-resistance and pressure-holding.
③ Inner rubber layer
The inner layer is designed to seal the air inside the fender.
Hydropneumatic Fender Application
1. Ship-to-ship transfer operations
2. Ship-to-ship services
3. Offshore platform defense
4. Ship berthing at the dock
5. Hang on the ship hull
