Polyurethane foam fenders are an alternative to pneumatic fenders. Polyurethane foam fenders consist of three parts, including the outer polyurethane layer, reinforced nylon cord fabric, and internal polyethylene foam. The outer layer is strong enough to resist friction and the inner closed-cell can stop any water permeating into the fender body.

The outer layer of the polyurethane foam fender has extremely low strength, so it has extremely high wear resistance. The polyurethane foam fender effectively absorbs the impact force, thereby reducing the resultant force acting on the dock/ship at the contact point.
