Marine Pneumatic Rubber Fenders Inflatable Rubber Bumper Boat Ship Fenders
Inflatable Rubber Bumper
Inflatable rubber bumper was developed in Japan in 1958. The inflatable rubber bumpers should be manufactured according to ISO 17357. The standard defines the corresponding international standards for the materials and testing of these fenders. In most cases, the inflatable rubber bumpers should be surrounded by tires and chains to provide additional protection. The fender can also be reinforced with rubber ribs(rib fender) without tires and chain mesh (sling fender).
Inflatable Rubber Bumper Advantage
1. Shape Conformant at Inclined Compression
Inflatable rubber bumper is made of reinforced cord layers of high elasticity and flexibility, which enable it to make itself shape conformant at inclined compression during ship-to-ship operations. Compared with solid fender and foam fender, the inflatable rubber bumper is easier to distribute the load along the ship's body or berthing structure.
2. Advantage Under Severe Weather Conditions
Under normal circumstances, the ship movement caused by high and long-period waves or strong wind will bring repeated compression and shearing forces on the fender and make it easier to be fatigue and damage. However inflatable rubber bumper is strong enough to resist severe weather conditions, the reaction force increases slowly compared with a solid fender and won’t easily reach the maximum.
Inflatable Rubber Bumper Structure
① Outer rubber layer
The outer rubber layer uses special compounds that provide additional tensile strength and tear strength to protect the fender from severe weather conditions and frequent use
② Synthetic-tire-cord layer
The reinforced layer is a composite tire cord with cross shadow lines, which is designed to distribute stress evenly.
③ Inner rubber layer
The inner rubber layer is specially designed to seal the internal air and prevent any leakage, just like the inner tube of a tire.
Inflatable Rubber Bumper Classification
Inflatable rubber bumpers are produced with two initial pressure ratings, which are pneumatic 50 (P50, initial internal pressure 50kPa) and pneumatic 80 (P80, initial internal pressure 80kPa).
Inflatable rubber bumpers are mainly classified into three types as follows:
1. Inflatable Rubber Bumper with Chain and Tyre Net
With chain and tire net covering the fender body, the inflatable rubber bumper can reduce the damage of friction and abrasion caused by direct contact. Therefore it’s widely used in places with complicated and unstable tide variation, such as ship-to-ship(STS) and ship-to-dock(STD) operations. In addition, as for the protective tire, Jerryborg offers four types of tires with different sizes and thicknesses for customers to choose from.
2. Sling Type Inflatable Rubber Bumper
Sling type inflatable rubber bumper will be connected with a guy chain or guy rope with a lifting device on both ends.
3. Hydro Pneumatic Type Inflatable Rubber Bumper
The hydropneumatic inflatable rubber bumper is usually used as a bumper with submarines and other semi-submersible platforms. It can be installed vertically in the water cause it’s filled with air and water inside and equipped with a counterweight.
All these inflatable rubber bumpers mentioned above are available usually in black, the color is also customized upon your request. Jerryborg offers inflatable rubber bumpers with various sizes in diameter ranging from 500mm to 4500mm, length ranging from 1000mm to 9000mm.
